Bomb Threat Temporarily Closes Salem Hospital’s Emergency Department

Salem Police say a man pulled out a pipe and declared it was bomb causing part of Salem Hospital’s emergency department to be evacuated early Saturday morning.

They say 60-year-old Robert Asbury went to the hospital to receive treatment. After being placed in a room he pulled out the pipe and declared it was a bomb.

Police arrived at the scene, took the pipe off-site where they determined it to be a hoax. The incident and evacuation lasted for around 2 hours.

Asbury was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a hoax device.
