Good news for supporters of Oregon’s bottle bill. The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative, the organization that oversees the state’s bottle deposit program says around 90 percent of the containers covered by the program were returned and redeemed last year. They say it’s an increase of around 35 percent over where the numbers stood two years ago.
An article in the Bend Bulletin says Oregonians recycled around 2 billion containers last year, the most under the program.
Officials claim the increase comes from two recent efforts… dramatically expanding the types of containers included in the program and raising the deposit from 5 cents to 10 cents last April.
