Salem Police Officer Arrested on Meth and Theft Charges

Portland Police Bureau officers arrested 31-year-old Seth Thayres of Portland, a Salem Police officer, Wednesday on methamphetamine and theft charges. He was charged with two counts of first-degree theft and one count of meth possession.

Portland police say they were following up on two burglaries that over $30,000 worth of property was taken. They determined from the investigation that Thayres and 35-year-old James Cardenas had stolen property related to one of the burglaries. Both were arrested and charged with crimes related to the burglaries and stolen property.

A Salem Police press release stated Thayres was on administrative leave from the department.
