Posted on October 1, 2019

One 16-year-old girl is dead and another is injured after the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer they drove rolled over Saturday night, police said Monday.

Oregon State Police said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. as the girls drove north on Highway 14 near Forest Ridge Road, southwest of Silverton. Police confirmed the girls were the only two people in the vehicle.

The SUV left the roadway for “an unknown reason” and rolled, police said.

The driver, from Hubbard, died at the scene, police said. The passenger, from Salem, was taken to Silverton Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police said speed and failing to wear a seat belt may have contributed to the incident.
