Excessive Heat Watch Issued By the National Weather Service

Posted on August 13, 2020

The National Weather Service announced an Excessive Heat Watch in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening in Greater Portland and Vancouver metro area, Western and Central Columbia River Gorge, Hood River Valley, and the Central Willamette Valley. Dangerously hot conditions are possible. High temperatures are expected to reach 96 to 102 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. In between these days, Saturday night will remain very warm with lows in the 60s and potentially near 70 degrees in urban centers.

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
