On Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at approximately 9:03 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 266.
Preliminary investigation revealed a VW Passat, operated by Lucia Carballo Hernandez (41) of Happy Valley, was northbound on I-5 at freeway speeds when it rear-ended a stopped or very slow moving Honda Accord operated by an adult male, who will be identified when appropriate.
The adult male was unresponsive when pulled from his vehicle.
An OSP Trooper and a bystander performed CPR on the adult male but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Carballo Hernandez and her juvenile passenger suffered minor injuries and were not transported.
OSP was assisted by the Marion County Fire Department, Keizer Fire Department and ODOT.
