Salem, Ore. – After a four-month recruitment, candidate screening and extensive interview process, the Salem City Council has advanced two candidates for consideration as Salem’s next City Manager.
On June 15, following a day-long interview process with the Mayor and City Council members, leaders of area agencies and civic organizations, the City’s Executive Leadership Team, and labor leadership, Salem City Manager candidates answered questions from community members. The Salem City Council expressed appreciation to the community for their input into this process.
As a next step, members of the City Council will visit candidates’ hometowns and meet with members of the communities, civic organizations, and elected bodies.
The two candidates advancing are:
- Keith Stahley, currently Assistant City Manager for the City of Olympia, Washington; and
- Eric Zimmerman, most recently served in the US Embassy in Bangladesh and was previously Deputy City Manager for the City of Medford, Oregon and Assistant City Manager for the City of Tigard, Oregon.
About the Recruitment Process
On February 22, 2022, Salem’s City Council formally launched the City Manager recruitment by approving the recruitment process, candidate profile, and salary range. Raftelis, the executive search firm assisting the City Council with the recruitment, conducted initial screening interviews and extensive background research.
