Chemeketa Community College will host the first college-wide Open House since the pandemic

Salem, Ore., July 7, 2022 — Chemeketa Community College will host a college-wide open house and community fair from 4 pm to 6 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. The open house will take place on the Chemeketa Salem campus at 4000 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, Oregon 97305. This will be the first open house since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The open house will feature family fun activities, food, giveaways including one grand prize scholarship of $5,000 from the Chemeketa Foundation, additional runner up prizes donated by local businesses, exhibitor booths from community organizations and businesses, and all of Chemeketa’s departments showcasing what their educational and training programs offer with interactive displays and tours. Guests can explore over ninety different career and technical education programs, transfer programs, high school partnerships, and more.

July 20 is the anniversary of the first lunar landing and therefore the theme of Chemeketa’s Open House is, “One small step for your present; one GIANT LEAP for your FUTURE!”  A college education is more important now than ever before because it is the key to higher earnings potential and Chemeketa is the best choice for higher education and workforce training.  Open house visitors who are interested in enrolling in courses will be assisted by employees at various computer stations around the campus.  Chemeketa’s financial aid office will also be providing help and assistance for those who are filling out financial aid applications.

“COVID created an enormous disconnect with our community,” says Marie Hulett, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at Chemeketa Community College. “We want to bring everyone together again—individuals, service organizations, community clubs, and businesses— to reestablish neighborhood connections, reinforce that we are here for each other, and demonstrate that Chemeketa is truly a gathering place where all are welcome. This will be an afternoon for making new friends, having fun, and learning new things.”

Open House visitors in attendance can complete a PATHport activity, which is a self-guided tour to explore the Chemeketa campus and programs. The grand prize $5,000 scholarship that will be awarded will help cover tuition and fees for one year to a lucky attendee who completes the PATHport activity and enrolls at Chemeketa for the fall 2022, winter 2023, and spring 2023 academic terms.

The Salem Fire Department, the Iron Ladies Motorcycle Group, the Scooby Doo Van, and Caesar the No Drama Llama with his “dad”, Larry, are just some of the confirmed exhibitors who will be greeting attendees. There will also be a sneak peek preview of the Planetarium show, which will reopen in the fall.
