SALEM, Ore. – Jul. 20, 2022 – Today, in collaboration with Santiam Hospital, Marion County Health and Human Services (MCHHS) has arranged to have their Wellness Van located at the Santiam Medical Center in Mill City every Wednesday, adjusting the schedule and availability as needed.
The intent of the wellness van is to increase access to mental health and substance use treatment. It will be staffed by an MCHHS counselor or therapist, along with a certified recovery mentor or peer, alternating based on appointments received and community needs. The van is equipped with a computer to help facilitate telehealth appointments, and there will also be access to treatment rooms in the clinic to provide some in-person services.
“We really hope this additional mental health treatment option at Santiam Hospital will help engage and connect individuals with the resources and support that they need to thrive,” said County Commissioner Danielle Bethell. “Folks in the canyon especially have had to push through so much these past years, showing an incredible sense of strength, community, and resiliency.
“But that didn’t come without a cost, and we want to help people know it’s okay to struggle in that—that it’s okay to not be okay and find support.”
