Salem, Ore. — Today, detectives from the Salem Police Felony Crimes Unit arrested Evan Lee Webber on arson-related charges connected to a fire at a west Salem business last week.
It was on December 12 at approximately 5:30 a.m. that multiple callers passing by the 100 block of Wallace RD NW reported a fire at a business. Salem Police officers and the Salem Fire Department responded. The building sits adjacent to the exit ramp from the Marion Street Bridge, and early morning traffic into west Salem was detained for approximately 15 minutes while crews worked to extinguish the flames.
Detectives learned a fire was set to containers in a locked, fenced area of the property, resulting in an estimated $100,000 in damage. The investigation subsequently led to determining Webber’s involvement. He was arrested at a home in Keizer without incident.
The 30-year-old Webber is lodged at the Polk County Jail on the following charges:
- Arson in the second degree
- Aggravated criminal mischief in the first degree
No further information about the investigation is available. Arraignment proceedings by the Office of the Polk County District Attorney are pending.
