Marion County Jury finds Man Guilty of Murder

Today, a Marion County Jury found 34-year-old Antonio Julian Soto of Silverton, Oregon, guilty of Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Attempted Murder in the First Degree with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The charges stemmed from the June 8, 2021, shooting death of Davontae DeShawn Smith, 21.  The jury also found that at the time he committed the murder, Antonio Julian Soto was on supervision for prior criminal activity.

The trial began on January 30, 2023, and the jury returned its verdict on February 10, 2023. Marion County Circuit Judge James E. Edmonds presided over the trial.  The state was represented by Deputy District Attorneys Matt Kemmy and Katharine Semple.

Sentencing will occur on March 16, 2023, at 1:00pm.
