SALEM, OR – Changes to accepted materials and disposal rates will take effect at Brown’s Island Demolition Landfill, Salem Keizer Recycling and Transfer Station, and North Marion Recycling and Transfer Station starting on October 1, 2023.

The Brown’s Island Compost Facility (located at Brown’s Island Demolition Landfill) will be open for yard debris disposal starting October 2, 2023. There will be a minimum fee of $15.00 for up to 2 cubic yards of yard debris. Each additional cubic yard more than the minimum will be charged $10.00 per cubic yard. For example, a four cubic yard load would be charged the minimum $15.00 plus two additional cubic yards at $10.00 each, for a total of $35.00. Only yard debris, including grass clippings, leaves, branches, vegetative material, will be accepted.  Lumber, rocks, sod, and dirt will not be accepted.

Brown’s Island Demolition Landfill will implement a new disposal rate on October 1, 2023. Material disposal will cost $20.00 per cubic yard.

The Salem Keizer Recycling and Transfer Station and the North Marion Recycling and Transfer Station will have new rates for tires and some appliances.

Small tires (less than 20” rim diameter) off the rim will cost $5.00 for disposal, while small tires on the rim will cost $10.00 for disposal. All appliances with refrigerants (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, etc.) will be $25.00 for disposal.

While yard debris is accepted at Salem Keizer Recycling and Transfer Station, North Marion Recycling and Transfer Station, and Brown’s Island Compost Facility, there are other local alternatives available for yard debris disposal for a fee. Check with your local landscape material supply location for accepted materials and current fees.

In addition to Salem Keizer Recycling and Transfer Station and North Marion Recycling and Transfer Station, there may be alternative disposal locations for tires and appliances that are more convenient or cost-effective for community members. Check with local tire retailers for tire disposal, and local appliance retailers for appliance disposal alternatives.
