This Saturday Only: Adopt a Marion County Rescue Dog for Only $25

Posted on June 7, 2024

Salem, OR – Interested in finding a canine companion to join you on adventures this summer? Visit Marion County Dog Services (MCDS) in Salem! The shelter is adding Saturday walk-though hours starting this Saturday, June 8th. Public walk-through hours will be from 11am-3pm every Saturday, and 12-6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The shelter has hosted multiple adoption events over the last six months and opened its kennels to the public for the first time since 2020 last November. Guests are welcome to walk the kennels and meet adoptable dogs. The shelter closed its adoption kennels during the COVID-19 pandemic and opened for regular walk-though hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays in March of this year.

While adoption fees normally range from $100-$350, on Saturday, June 8th, adoption fees will be just $25 for all dogs over 6 months and over 25 pounds. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, current vaccinations, flea/tick treatment, deworming, and a gift bag of treats, toys and other basic supplies. Additionally, Marion County residents who adopt will receive a 1-year dog license for their new dog.

“Implementing regular walk-though hours earlier this year has helped encourage regular walk-through traffic in the kennels,” said MCDS Shelter Director, Lauren Thielke. “Our hope is that adding walk-through hours on Saturdays will encourage even more people to visit and adopt dogs. Even if you’re not ready to adopt, visiting the shelter during our walk-through hours is a great way to learn more about our dogs and volunteer opportunities.”

MCDS accepts and cares for all lost and stray dogs within Marion County.
