Thanks to the voter-approved 2022 Safety and Livability Bond, the City of Salem is expected to start improvements to the sports court facilities at River Road Park in northeast Salem and Sumpter School Park in south Salem on Monday, August 12, 2024, and complete them by late November 2024.
Key Improvements:
The improvements will include:
- New asphalt surfacing
- Installation of new tennis posts, nets, and anchor straps
- Striping for pickleball on either side of each tennis net
- Addition of benches, waste receptacles and drinking water fountains
- Enhanced walkways for improved court accessibility
- Replacement of fencing
Construction Impacts:

Construction Schedule:
The contractor will work Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning August 12, 2024. All construction activities are weather-dependent. Work at both River Road and Sumpter Parks will happen at the same time.

- Removal of current sport court facilities
- Paving of new court surface
- Improvements to walkways for court accessibility
- Fence replacement
