Daimler Trucks North America Stops Selling Internal Combustion Vehicles in Oregon

Posted on January 9, 2025

Daimler Trucks North American, headquartered in Portland, issued a statement last month announcing it would stop selling large diesel combustion engine trucks in Oregon.

The reason for the decision is a new rule issued by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality that took effect January 1st. The Advanced Cleaned Trucks rule says out of every 100 new class 8 heavy trucks a manufacturer sells in Oregon, 7 must be electric. The DEQ says the percentage of electric trucks will increase every year, reaching 40 percent of all heavy trucks sold in 2032.

Willamette Week published an article titled, “Oregon’s New Electric Truck Rule is Disrupting Oregon’s Transportation Industry. Read about how this new rule is impacting Oregon and see what happened when one trucking company tried to use an electric truck for short hauls.
