SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Revenue is urging taxpayers to take part in an anonymous IRS survey about tax preparation and filing options, open through September 2, 2025.
Oregon is one of 25 states that partnered with the IRS to pilot Direct File Oregon, a free online service that lets taxpayers submit both federal and state tax returns electronically. For tax year 2024, more than 13,000 Oregonians used the platform to file their state returns, including nearly 4,700 who first filed their federal returns through IRS Direct File.
“Oregon taxpayers should take this opportunity to provide their valuable feedback to the IRS on free tax filing options,” said Department of Revenue Director David Gerstenfeld. “Our mission is to deliver a clear and easy experience for customers, and free filing tools play an important role in making that happen.”
The Department of Revenue, along with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS, is encouraging public participation to help inform an upcoming congressional report on tax filing programs.
Taxpayers can participate anonymously by visiting the Free Online Tax Preparation Feedback Survey or the IRS.gov landing page.
