Celebrate International Dog Day in Salem – August 26

Posted on August 24, 2025

It’s time to honor our four-legged friends! On August 26, celebrate International Dog Day with extra treats, plenty of cuddles, and a walk in one of Salem’s beautiful parks.

Whether you’re strolling downtown or exploring trails, remember that dogs must be leashed in parks—unless you’re in a designated off-leash area. Here are a few great spots to visit with your pup:

  • Riverfront Park (200 Water St. NE): 26 acres with trails and bridges that connect to Minto-Brown Island Park and Wallace Marine Park.

  • Minto-Brown Island Park (2200 Minto Island Rd. SE): 29 miles of trails in nine loops and a 30-acre off-leash dog area.

  • Your neighborhood park: With more than 90 parks across Salem, there’s always a spot nearby for you and your pet.

Wherever you go, don’t forget pet waste bags—keeping our parks and streams clean is everyone’s responsibility. Want to show extra love for our community and waterways? Visit the Clean Streams page on our website and join the Capital Canine Club today.
