The City of Salem will explore a program to help property owners upgrade their buildings with energy-saving features like solar panels, better insulation, water-saving systems and earthquake-improvements. At last week’s meeting, Salem City Council approved a request to look into Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (CPACE).
Loans under this program are obtained from a financial institution, secured by a property lien and paid back over time. By adopting this program, the city will help will reduce energy costs for businesses, cut greenhouse gas emissions and create safer, more sustainable buildings for the community.
