Sidewalk infill to address gaps in the City’s sidewalk network will be on the agenda at the Monday, October 27 Salem City Council meeting. Salem Housing Authority and Salem Urban Renewal Agency are also meeting at Loucks Auditorium at 6 p.m.
In the 2022 Safety and Livability Bond, $6 million was included to address these missing sections of sidewalk. The Bond Oversight Steering Committee recommended to advance 10 projects. These locations were selected from more than 200 requests submitted by the public in 2024. The projects were prioritized using criteria approved by the City Council:
- Equity (examples: poverty levels, minority populations, access to vehicle)
- Street classification (examples: arterial streets, local streets), and
- Location relative to schools, transit, parks.
The City Council is being asked to approve the final list.
Other items before the Council include:
- A donation offered to fund two police officer positions for the Homeless Services Team
- An overview of the City’s procurement process
- Salem Police Department 2025-2027 Strategic Plan
- Recommended designs for Salem-Keizer Together Entranceway sign
- Marion County regulations of street vendors
