At its meeting on Monday, November 10, Salem City Council will consider a $20,000 donation to Marion Polk Food Share to aid residents affected by the temporary suspension of SNAP benefits during the federal shutdown and receive an update on programs addressing food insecurity from Marion Polk Food Share President and CEO Rick Gaupo.
In other business, Council will:
- Recognize National Runaway & Homeless Youth Prevention Month, Ruby Bridges Day and Veterans Day with proclamations
- Consider updating City policy to align with Oregon DEQ’s statewide recycling contamination reduction goals
- Consider a mid-year park improvement project at Wallace Marine Park and Wallace Natural Area to pave the existing trail and develop a long-term Natural Area Development and Management Plan addressing accessibility, visitor impacts and ecological restoration
- Consider adjustments to community service fees and expanding youth recreation waivers
- Consider whether to continue the seasonal no-mow strategy in the Upper Oak Grove area of Bush’s Pasture Park as recommended by the Salem Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
- Consider a mid-year project titled to address public safety and discourage illegal activity in the Pringle Parkade
- Hold the first reading of an ordinance in preparation for a November 24, 2025 public hearing adding accessory short-term rentals and short-term rentals to the 2019 Salem Tourism Promotion Area fee
