Salem City Council Had Busy Night

Posted on November 11, 2025

The Salem City Council had a lot on their docket last night. Salem City Councilor Vanessa Nordyke proposed the city adopt a policy on accepting gifts and donations after a recent split council vote allowed largely anonymous donors to pay for additional police officers. City outreach efforts to move people camping at Wallace Marine Park into available shelters have paved the way for a new recreation trail to be added to the park’s south side. The Salem Reporter says that last night, the Salem City Council considered approving a new paved pathway that planners say would make it easier to walk and bike through an often-muddy natural area of the West Salem park. If approved, construction on the bike path wouldn’t start until 2027, and cost is over $1 million. Salem city councilors also voted on extending the No Mow program at Bush’s Pasture Park to promote ecological restoration.
