Veterans Day In Oregon

Posted on November 11, 2025

Today is Nov. 11, Veterans Day, honoring and celebrating Americans who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The federal holiday is always observed on Nov. 11 due to an agreement made and signed between the Allied powers and Germany on Nov. 11, 1918, during World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday in 1938. There is no mail delivery today. Federal and State offices are closed, including the DMV, along with most banks and schools. The stock market however, will be open. There are events all over the state today, but the Portland Veterans Day Parade has been cancelled. Organizers say they plan on an event next year. National Parks are free on Veterans Day across the country, and The Oregon Zoo will offer free admission today to military members, veterans and their families. The Capitol Veterans Day Celebration starts at 11am today at Oregon Capitol State Park, 901 Court Street N.E. It is free.
