At its meeting on Monday, November 24, Salem City Council will hold two public hearings:
- Salem Tourism Promotion Area.
- To add short-term rentals to the Salem Tourism Promotion Area, a 2 percent fee on overnight stays to pays for marketing Salem as a destination for tourism
- The funding is used to promote overnight tourism through advertising, branding, promotions, sponsorship of special events and other programs that increase overnight transient lodging stays
- The hearing will be followed by a second reading of the ordinance enacting the change
- Solid Waste Rates for 2026 and 2027.
- To adjust solid waste (garbage) rates to begin January 1, 2026, and January 1, 2027, as recommended by the City Council’s Solid Waste Committee
- No increases are projected for Marion County rates in 2026 or 2027
- In Polk County, cart rates are projected to increase 3.7 percent in 2026 and 4.6 percent in 2027
In other business, Council will:
- Recognize Epilepsy Awareness Month with a proclamation
- Receive updates from the Center 50+ Advisory Commission and the Safe, Clean and Healthy Salem initiative
- Receive an information report providing background on State and City restrictions prohibiting aid to federal immigration enforcement, and a City Councilor motion and statement reinforcing the City’s Inclusive City status
- Consider whether to opt in to Marion County enforcement of street vendor regulations and whether to update the Minto Island Conservation Area Land Management Plan for 2025-2035
- Amend a ground lease for property at the Salem-Willamette Valley Airport
- Re-appoint members to various boards and commissions
- Receive the November 2025 Salem Housing Authority program management report and a list of October 2025 purchases of the City and Urban Renewal Agency that were approved administratively
