Flood Watch Issued for Marion & Polk Counties as Atmospheric River Arrives

Posted on December 8, 2025

A Flood Watch is now in effect from 10 a.m. today through late Thursday night, with Marion and Polk counties among the areas most at risk as a prolonged atmospheric river brings heavy rain to the region.

Officials warn that excessive rainfall may cause river, creek, and urban flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas across the central Willamette Valley. Landslides and debris flows are also possible on steep slopes, canyon areas, and locations below burn scars.

Forecast models show 2 to 4 inches of rain falling across Marion and Polk counties through Thursday morning, with even higher amounts expected in the Coast Range and Cascade foothills that feed local rivers. Several Willamette Valley tributaries have a 30–60% chance of reaching minor flood stage, and Johnson Creek at Sycamore and the Pudding River at Aurora show an 80% chance of minor flooding or higher.

Urban flooding, standing water on roads, and hydroplaning hazards are likely throughout the mid-Valley.

The National Weather Service urges residents to monitor updated forecasts and be prepared to act quickly if Flood Warnings are issued. Those living near rivers, creeks, or steep terrain should have a plan in place in case conditions worsen.
