Did you know there are many types of invasive species? They can be plants, fish, and mammals that take over and crowd out the many native species that live there.
In Salem, we have invasive species like nutria (a type of rodent), ludwigia (a plant), red-eared slider turtles and American bullfrogs. Some invasive species, such as ludwigia, can travel on your boat and spread to other lakes and rivers. That’s why it’s important to follow the CDCD method every time you take your boat out of the water:
- Check your boat for invasive species.
- Drain all the water from your boat.
- Clean off any dirt and plants.
- Dry all your equipment.
