A Suspicious Package Has Church Shelter In Place Sunday

Salem police called in the Salem Police Bomb Squad to investigate a suspicious package found in the 2500 block of 4th St NE. Sunday. The call came in around 8:27am. The area was secured and closed off, which affected the Salem Evangelical Church which was having services at the time. The church was asked to shelter in place. Police robots were used to assess the device. The technicians were able to determine the package did not contain any explosive components. The package was rendered safe, and there was no threat to the public. Local streets around the church were closed for about three hours. The  investigation is ongoing in regard to who may have placed the package at the location.
