Budgets, construction projects and lien forgiveness top the agenda when the Salem City Council, Salem Housing Authority and Salem Urban Renewal Agency meet on Monday, June 22, at Loucks Auditorium. The first meeting starts at 6 p.m.
Budgets
Both the Fiscal Year 2027 City of Salem and Salem Urban Renewal Agency budgets are scheduled for review and approval. Also being considered are the City’s Capital Improvement Program and the Salem Convention Center budget from Transient Occupancy (lodging) Taxes.
Commercial Street SE
City Council will also consider acquiring properties for the Commercial Street SE project between Vista Street and Ratcliff Drive. The project is designed to improve pedestrian access and enhance traffic flow at the intersection of Commercial and Ratcliff.
Lien Forgiveness
Council is also being asked to extend the Lien Forgiveness Program sunset date until July 30, 2027. The program authorizes Salem’s Health Officer to forgive liens from unpaid civil penalties and derelict structure fees if all Property Maintenance Code Violations are corrected.
Council will also consider:
- Proclamations for Virginia Green Day, Men’s Health Awareness Month and Elsinore Theatre Year
- Public hearing on exemption from competitive bidding and authorization of alternative contracting method for Geren Island Flow Maintenance Project
- Application for project funding under the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant for the aging Geren Island Water Treatment Facility bridge replacement

- Salem Revised Code changes concerning boards, commissions and committees
- Center 50+ Advisory Commission annual report
- Update on Local Bidder Pilot Program
