LANE COUNTY, Ore. — An 18-year-old Dallas resident was killed Monday evening in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 58 in Lane County.
Oregon State Police responded to the crash near Rattlesnake Road at approximately 5:24 p.m. on July 27.
According to a preliminary investigation, an eastbound Mazda 3 driven by Leilani Kana’i Barto of Dallas was attempting to pass other eastbound traffic when it collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Highlander driven by 74-year-old Arthur Allen Corliss of Eugene.
The Toyota was then struck by a westbound Kenworth semi-truck and trailer driven by 38-year-old Anthony Richard Luna of Sutherlin.
Barto was pronounced dead at the scene. Corliss was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Luna was reportedly not injured.
Highway 58 was affected for approximately four hours while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene. Oregon State Police said speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.
Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire and Rescue, the Eugene Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted Oregon State Police at the scene.
