ALEM, Ore. — Portions of Chemeketa Street in downtown Salem will be closed Saturday, August 1, for the Downtown Salem Summer Block Party.
The free community celebration, co-hosted by Salem Center and The Forge, will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities will include live music, food, downtown vendors, chalk art, pottery and other entertainment.
To accommodate setup, the event and cleanup, Chemeketa Street NE will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Commercial and Liberty streets and between Liberty and High streets.
Liberty Street will remain open to through traffic during the event. Pedestrians crossing Liberty Street will need to follow all traffic signals and use designated crossings.
The City of Salem says temporary signs will be installed to identify street closures and any lane restrictions. Drivers should expect some delays and increased pedestrian traffic throughout the downtown area.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes when possible and watch carefully for people walking near the event.
The street closures are expected to be lifted by 6 p.m. Saturday.
