Riverfront Park Playground Reopens, Bringing Families Back to Salem Waterfront

Posted on October 13, 2026

SALEM, Ore. — Families visiting downtown Salem can once again use the Riverfront Park playground following months of construction that kept the popular play area closed through much of the summer.

The playground reopened Friday, October 9, according to local reporting. The project had kept the area fenced off for approximately six months while work was underway.

The reopening restores another recreational destination to the Willamette River waterfront, a gathering place for families, walkers and visitors to downtown Salem.

However, additional work remains at the park, according to Salem Reporter. Residents planning visits should check city updates for information about any remaining construction or restricted areas.

The reopening also provides an opportunity for families to return to the park as fall activities continue across the Mid-Willamette Valley.

City officials and community members will be watching how the completed improvements serve residents and visitors in the months ahead.
