Chemeketa Community College is preparing for five million dollars in budget reductions next year as the school faces another projected deficit. College President Jessica Howard says the cuts will be needed for the 2027–2028 fiscal year, and she warned that another deficit could lead to additional reductions the following year. The Salem Reporter says Chemeketa previously made cuts in 2023 that eliminated 53 positions, including 23 layoffs. The college has not announced final decisions about where the new reductions will fall. Students, faculty and staff will be watching closely to see whether programs, services or jobs could be affected. College officials say budget decisions have not yet been finalized.
