Oregon Treasury Mailing $7 Million in Unclaimed Money to Residents

Posted on October 29, 2026

The Oregon State Treasury is mailing approximately $7 million in unclaimed funds to about 13,000 people across the state this month, with individual checks ranging from $50 to $10,000.

The payments are being distributed through the Treasury’s Checks Without Claims program, which identifies owners of forgotten funds and sends money directly to eligible recipients without requiring them to file a claim first.

State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner announced the initiative October 23. The funds were reported to the state in 2024 by businesses and organizations unable to return the money to its rightful owners.

The money can come from a variety of sources, including uncashed checks, forgotten bank accounts, tax refunds, payroll checks and credit balances.

Treasury officials say people receiving the October payments should have received a notification letter in September. The state’s unclaimed-property website does not necessarily show whether someone is scheduled to receive one of these automatic payments.

Even if a resident is not receiving a check this month, other funds may still be held in their name. Oregon residents can search the state’s official unclaimed-property database for free and file a claim online.

The Treasury estimates Oregon continues to hold approximately $1 billion in unclaimed funds.

There is no deadline to claim unclaimed property, and the process is free. Residents can visit Oregon’s Unclaimed Property website to check for money in their name.
