Newsmakers at Noon – City Accountability, State Leadership & Oregon’s Future 1/15/26

Posted on January 15, 2026

On today’s Newsmakers at Noon, Denise and Hunter welcome Deanna Gwyn, Ward 4 Salem City Councilor, for a detailed City Council update. Councilor Gwyn discusses the recent vote to remove Kyle Hedquist from the Police Review Board after a prior murder conviction came to light, noting she would not have supported his 2024 appointment had she known about the sentence. The conversation also covers Ethics Commission matters, serial meetings, her decision to sign a letter of education, along with endorsements, budget committee updates, and election timing.

At 12:30, Danielle Bethell, Marion County Commissioner and Oregon gubernatorial candidate, joins the show to outline her education priorities, shaped by her time on the Salem-Keizer School Board, as well as how her business background and leadership as President of the Association of Oregon Counties inform her vision for governing Oregon.

Later in the program, Denise and Hunter discuss Tina Kotek’s announcement naming Tim Knopp as Oregon’s new Chief Prosperity Officer, highlighting Knopp’s experience as a former state senator and his background in business and public policy.
