What’s really happening behind the scenes at Salem City Hall? What does Mayor Julie Hoy think about the decisions shaping Salem’s future? And with Oregon’s governor’s race too close to call, what’s going to matter most as ballots arrive?
We covered all of that and more on today’s Newsmakers at Noon – and you’ll want to hear these conversations!
Denise and Hunter welcomed Jane Lowery and Daylee Howard from Willamette Valley Bank for our October Community Calendar, highlighting events and activities happening throughout the Willamette Valley.
Then Salem Mayor Julie Hoy joined us for a candid conversation about city government and her time in office as her tenure begins winding down.
We went beyond the headlines to discuss recent City Council decisions involving Budget Committee appointments and Salem’s representation on the regional transportation committee. Julie explained her thinking and why some decisions aren’t nearly as straightforward as they might appear.
We also tackled Salem’s 120-day pause on data-center development. What should the city accomplish during that time, and what would it take for a proposed project to actually make sense for Salem?
With Oregon’s gubernatorial race essentially tied, we also looked ahead to tonight’s Kotek–Drazan debate and the final weeks before Election Day. What issues could still move undecided voters?
Finally, Denise marked the third anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel with a reflection on the atrocities of that day and the moral clarity she believes the world must never lose.
If you care about Salem, the direction of Oregon and the decisions affecting our communities, this is an hour worth your time. Hear directly from the people involved, get some perspective beyond the headlines, and decide for yourself.
