Today’s Newsmakers at Noon celebrated America, highlighted an incredible local nonprofit, and tackled some of Oregon’s top headlines.
We welcomed TJ Sullivan from Hagan Hamilton for our monthly Community Champions segment. TJ shared how the partnership shines a spotlight on organizations making a real difference across the Mid-Valley before introducing Trina Fowler from the Salem Free Clinics. Trina discussed the clinic’s mission to provide free medical, dental, and mental health services to uninsured adults in our community, the impact volunteers have on changing lives, and ways listeners can support their important work. With the Fourth of July weekend behind us, Denise and Hunter shared how they celebrated America 250—enjoying spectacular fireworks, delicious food, and spending time with family and friends while celebrating the freedoms that make our nation exceptional.
We also talked about America’s State Fair in Washington, D.C., where Oregon’s official booth was left without state support. Rather than let Oregon go unrepresented, patriotic Oregonians stepped up to staff and decorate the booth themselves, giving visitors a warm welcome and proudly showcasing the state. Similar volunteer efforts took place in several other states that lacked an official presence.
Other topics on today’s program included:
- A new report ranking Oregon among the least desirable states to move to, citing concerns over affordability and public safety.
- The proposed Oregon ballot initiative seeking to ban hunting and fishing after supporters gathered enough signatures to qualify for the ballot.
- A viral patriotic monologue from Spencer Pratt discussing his views on American values and current cultural trends.
