Salem Weekly, the alternative bi-weekly newspaper, has officially closed down after over 14 years of serving the area. The Statesman Journal says it doesn’t look like there has been activity late October. They quote Rick Edmonds, a media business analyst with Poynter Institute who said all-weekly are going through “very tough times. The publications face the same general problems as larger newspapers with advertising shrinking while digital ads and paid subscriptions are “coming much more slowly.” The paper ran from 2004 to 2018.
