Oregon Governor Is Going After A Massive Tax Increase

Posted on November 28, 2018

Governor Kate Brown says she is going after a massive tax increase over the next six months to improve public schools. She made the announcement yesterday as she delivered her policy and fiscal agenda for the next two year. She said it would take more than $2 billion to both improve K-12 schools and cover their soaring public pension rates plus prevent cuts to higher education that Brown included in her budget. The Governor didn’t suggest any solutions for how lawmakers could raise the huge amount of money or how she would go about getting voter approval for the tax increases. She said she is counting on business leaders, employee unions and lawmakers to reach consensus.
