The proposed Kuebler Gateway Shopping Center was rejected by the Salem City council last night. The proposal included the relocation of Costco Wholesale.
Councilors voted 5 to 3 rejecting an October decision by city planning staff that had recommended the 24-acre shopping center.
Besides Costco, the shopping center would have included four retail buildings and a fueling station.
Nearly 200 people attended last night’s council meeting with concerns about traffic impacts and the removal of large Oregon White Oaks on the site of the proposed development.
