The 2019 Oregon Legislature opens Tuesday with Democrats holding a super majority in both houses and a democrat governor.
Democrat leaders are saying their priority is to pass a tax package that will continue funding the state’s Medicaid program. Other top items on their agenda include: a bill to cap greenhouse gas emission, raise billions of dollars in business taxes to improve the state’s public schools, gun safety and control including restricting gun access for people who have domestic violence restraining orders against them, and impose statewide rent controls and ban most evictions unless the landlord shows cause.
