Willamette University has been fined 51-hundred dollars for four hazardous waste management violations found during an inspection of its maintenance yard by the Department of Environmental Quality.
A D-E_Q official said the university has received three warning letters in the past 10 years for hazardous waste violations. Still D-E-Q found numerous and repeated violations again this year.
Willamette University spokesman Adam Torgerson told the Statesman Journal, the university has had no spills or anything that has had environmental effects in any way and the university has rigorous procedures to make sure chemicals are handled safely.
