Cherriots Invites Everyone to Come Celebrate New Bus Service

Posted on September 4, 2019

WHAT: Saturday’s Alright for Riding is a fun, family-friendly event

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7

WHERE: Downtown Salem at Courthouse Square on the North Block, between Church and High streets

DETAILS: The 2017 Oregon Legislature established a dedicated funding source for Cherriots to enhance and expand its services to better serve the Mid-Willamette Valley. Saturday and later weekday service started Sept. 3, while Sunday and holiday service will start in May of 2020.

Cherriots is celebrating this groundbreaking milestone with a public event on the first day of Saturday service. The day’s program includes music, a balloon artist, personalized button making station, food carts, and Caesar the No Drama Lama, who will be stopping by about 11 a.m. One of the new buses will be available for attendees to tour and all rides on Saturdays in September are free.

Transit hosts and Cherriots ambassadors will be wearing commemorative t-shirts and canvassing the Downtown Transit Center to assist visitors and assure that riders get to their correct buses.
