Marion Co. Sheriff’s Office – 06/23/20 3:23 PM
On June 22nd, 2020, at approximately 2:20 am, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the report of a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his torso. The initial investigation suggested that he was shot by an acquaintance who had fled the scene by the time deputies arrived. The victim was transported by medics to a local hospital where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit where he is recovering.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate the incident. Investigators recovered the handgun and learned it was purchased unlawfully by the juvenile suspect. Final determination regarding the nature of the incident, whether accidental or purposeful, will be made after the investigation is complete.
On June 23rd, 2020, the juvenile suspect in the shooting surrendered at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. The suspect, a 14-year-old male, has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana.
