The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® officially redesignated Salem Hospital as a Magnet-recognized organization for a third consecutive time. The 2020 honor also acknowledged four exemplars — exceptional practices that highlight excellence in nursing practice.
“Magnet® status is about the highest care standards delivered by interprofessional teams,” said Cheryl Wolfe, Salem Health president and CEO. “Achieving excellence at the bedside takes a village. I am deeply proud of our organization’s commitment to these principles and this honor reflects that.”
The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designates organizations worldwide where nursing leaders successfully align their nursing strategic goals to improve patient outcomes. It recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, clinical excellence and innovations in professional practice. Today, only 7% of hospitals nationwide are Magnet®.
“Magnet designation is proof of every team member’s commitment to excellence, day in and day out,” said Sarah Horn, Salem Health chief nursing officer. “It is the result of a collaborative culture across the organization focused on identifying ways to improve patient outcomes at every turn.”
The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® involves a rigorous vetting process that constantly demands more from applicants. After receiving the impressive honor in 2010 and 2015, Salem Hospital’s third designation journey included following a new standard of expectations set in October 2018. Magnet® surveyors conducted a virtual visit in May 2020, which included input from staff, patients as well as the community.
