Salem Police Officer Injured in Shooting

The Salem Police Department is investigating a shooting, which took place in the early morning hours of Friday, July 17th, 2020, near Mission St and 17th St. During the encounter, a Salem Police Officer was shot and received non-life threatening injuries. The officer was transported to the Salem ER, where he is being treated for his injuries. The officer is not being identified at this time. The suspect(s) in the shooting fled the scene and officers are currently working to apprehend the individual(s). There is no threat to the public.

All west bound lanes on Mission Street, between 22nd St and 17th St, are closed and traffic is being diverted.  Drivers are asked to take an alternate route.  The closure will be in place for the next few hours.

In addition, northbound 13th St SE is blocked at Hines street due to police activity in the area.   Citizens are asked to avoid that area.
