2. Community safety and security
We want to remind everyone that there continues to be road closures and there is increased presence of patrol deputies in the evacuated areas to be available for search and rescue needs and to help prevent criminal behavior in the closure areas. Oregon law gives law enforcement the authority to arrest individuals who fail to adhere to evacuation directives while in prohibited areas during an emergency declaration. People arrested for crimes in Level 3 evacuation areas will have a public safety override to remain in custody until the time of arraignment. We have been notified the Oregon National Guard will be assisting beginning tomorrow with staffing road closures.
3. Reporting missing persons
We continue to receive questions about how to report someone believed to be missing in the evacuation area within Marion County. To report a family member missing, please contact our non-emergency dispatch at 503-588-5032.
4. Resident access to damaged areas
At this time our office is working on a plan for residents, who are displaced, to safely return to their residences. We currently don’t have a time line for when this will occur and will update our community members as soon as this information is available.
5. Detroit Lake:
We are working on a plan to have the boats removed from Detroit Lake as soon as it is safe to do so. County officials remain in contact with the U.S. Army Corps Engineers who are monitoring the water levels. Once it is determined to be safe we will advise the residents of date and time.
6. How to support wildfire relief efforts :
We appreciate the amazing outpouring of community support. Please avoid dropping off supplies directly at evacuation sites. Learn about current donation needs and drop off locations, please visit https://www.co.marion.or.us/PW/EmergencyManagement/Fire/Pages/Additional-Resources.aspx.
7. Rumor Control
We’ve heard community concerns about looting, arson, and misinformation about evacuation statuses. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has received no reports of arson in Marion County. We encourage you to follow official websites and social media for up to date information concerning area wildfires.
