Salem, OR – Both Marion County ferries are scheduled to close for several weeks this summer for required maintenance.
Buena Vista Ferry
The Buena Vista Ferry will close Tuesday, July 13, 2021, to conduct U.S. Coast Guard required dry dock inspections and routine maintenance. The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks. The ferry crosses the Willamette River south of Independence and connects Marion and Polk counties.
Wheatland Ferry
The county has received federal funds for work at the Wheatland Ferry site: (1) to install tie-off structures, (2) to install a backup generator, and (3) to repair and resurface the ramps. The county has awarded the contract for construction to Legacy Contracting, Inc., of Stayton and work is in progress. The ferry is scheduled to close on July 19 through the end of August 2021. The closure may be postponed due to weather or supply constraints. The Wheatland Ferry is located north of Keizer off Wheatland Road and connects Marion and Yamhill counties.
The closures are meant to ensure that all of the in-water work can occur within the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s designated in-water work window for the Willamette River. The ferries will reopen as soon as work is complete.
