On 08/11/21, at 3:03 pm, deputies responded to a report of a male spotted under the waterfalls at Scotts Mills Park that had drowned.
Children were swimming in the water at the base of the falls when they spotted what appeared to be a male figure underneath the water. When deputies arrived they were directed to the falls area.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was requested and able to recover the body of an adult male. He was found in approximately 8 feet of water directly below the falls.
The victim has been identified as a 22 year-old California resident. The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin notification can be made. This drowning is still under investigation at this time and no further information is expected to be released.

This tragic event is a strong reminder that even with the summer weather, the heavy flow of the water and the waters being very cold, it is still very dangerous swimming in rivers. Please be mindful and use extreme caution when swimming and always swim with another individual.
