Arrest Made in Church Burglary and Arson Case

Salem, Ore. — Salem Police detectives made an arrest Monday, March 7, 2022 in the burglary and vandalism of The Way Church in downtown Salem.

The church was burglarized on three separate occasions in February. The string of incidents began with the breaking of windows and entry into the building. One incident also involved an attempt to set window coverings on fire which also caused damage to the glass pane. Damage was also done to sound and computer equipment.

Working with detectives, members of the Community Action Unit arrested Victor Soseia Hachipan, age 31. Hachipan was lodged at the Marion County Jail and charged with the following:

  • Arson in the second degree
  • Burglary in the second degree, two counts

He is due to be arraigned today, March 8, 2022, and all further inquiries on this case should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
