Salem, OR—The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and Marion County Parks have agreed that North Santiam State Recreation Area will be managed by Marion County Parks for the next two years effective April 1, 2022.
North Santiam joins 17 other developed parks currently managed by Marion County, including three parks along the North Santiam River. North Santiam park is located on Oregon Highway 22 near Lyons and is approximately 30 miles southeast of Salem.
“This is an exciting development for Marion County Parks to increase our camping opportunities in the Santiam Canyon,” said Parks Program Supervisor Tom Kissinger. “We are thrilled to partner with Oregon State Parks and look forward to providing the public with a positive user experience at this unique site.”
Marion County will be responsible for park operations, as well as reservations for the campground and picnic shelter once they reopen after recent wildfire damage. North Santiam park features 2.4 miles of trails, horseshoe pits, 10 picnic sites, and easy river access for boating, fishing, and swimming. The park is currently open for day use. More information about the park is available at https://www.co.marion.or.us/PW/Parks/descriptions/Pages/North-Santiam.aspx or call 503-588-5036.
“We’re excited about this new partnership with Marion County, and we’ll work together to ensure this improves efficiency and improves service to park visitors,” says Sarah Steele, OPRD district manager.
