St. Paul, OR—The 179th anniversary of the vote for the first provisional government west of the Mississippi River will be commemorated April 30, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Champoeg State Heritage Area memorial pavilion. The vote by 52 settlers in 1843 established the Provisional Government of Oregon. The pavilion has hosted the Founders Day event each year since 1901.

Visitors to the event and descendants of the original voters will listen to a roll call of honor followed by a rifle salute, and guest speakers. A Veterans of Foreign War color guard will also attend.

The event is free; however, parking is $5. A parking permit fee station is located in the parking area, or purchase a 12- or 24-month park permit online. Future events at Champoeg and other Oregon State Parks are included in the statewide event calendar, as well as Oregon Parks and Recreation Department centennial events.
